Global Travel, the iPhone Eject Tool, and Tiny SIM Cards

I'm from the US and Ed is from the UK and we met while both working in Shanghai over a number of years. Living abroad in an international business hub like Shanghai means we end up traveling a lot. During our travels, our beloved iPhones help us stay connected, entertained, organized, and productive anywhere in the world.

But world travel can be expensive. A major expense of traveling in our connected lives are steep roaming charges. To save money, we always try to purchase local SIM cards when traveling abroad. Changing SIMs, however, can be challenging.

The iPhone's SIM tray is hard to remove without the proper eject tool, which is small and easily lost or forgotten when packing for a trip. Some iPhones don't come with eject tools included. On many occasions we've been forced to forage for random pointy objects to eject the SIM tray.

Beyond the SIM tray eject tool, everyone knows how easy it is to lose or accidentally damage a SIM card. The new nano SIM cards for the iPhone 5 are now as small as a fingernail!

Having been frustrated with the iPhone SIM card situation so many times, we figured there must be a better way, and started to look for products that could solve our problem. We didn't find anything we liked. As an industrial designer, Simon seized the opportunity to design the product we wanted to buy.

Keeping Your SIM Cards & Eject Tool Conveniently Close and Safe

After pages of sketches, months of CAD development and several prototypes, we're finally ready to share Simon's design with the world.

We call it the SIMPLcaseâ„¢ and it allows the iPhone SIM tray eject tool, as well as up to three SIM cards to be discreetly and securely carried inside the case. With the SIMPLcase, you'll always have the right tool (we provide one with every case) and a secure place to store your SIM cards.

The front edge of SIMPLcase extends by 0.5mm past the surface of the iPhone's glass display, to minimize the risk of scratching the display when laying your iPhone face down. All of the iPhone's buttons, audio jack, and charge port are totally accessible.

The added thickness is just 3 millimeters in the center of the case (no thicker than a nice men's shirt button), and the case tapers just 1mm at the edge of the case. You won't notice any bulk, and the case is super low profile where you hold the phone. That's not all, though...

The Freedom to use iPhone Hands Free

The SIMPLcase can use any standard credit card / bank card / membership card as a stand to prop up the phone in either landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) orientation. This means you can watch movies and make FaceTime / Skype calls hands free.

High Performance Materials

SIMPLcase will be made from polycarbonate thermoplastic resin, which is the same engineering grade polymer used in shatter proof safety glasses and durable shells for mobile phones and laptops.

The inside of SIMPLcase features a soft silicone rubber insert that will protect your SIM cards' delicate contacts, and securely grip the SIM cards and the eject tool, but still enable you to remove them with ease.
