Growing up, I was always a big fan of morning talk radio. Guys who would bring in comedians for interviews and do funny skits where a part of how a greeted my day every morning for years. I liked eating my breakfast and listening to such fan favorites as "The Bob and Tom Show". I really enjoyed shows that would push the boundaries of what can and cannot be done on syndicated radio. It wasn't until much later that I discovered there were places where boundaries did not exist, and free funny Internet radio was a great place to find everything I ever wanted in a radio show.
I began having problems with radio when I was a teenager. I may have been a bit advanced for my age, but morning talk radio was just getting sillier and sillier to me. I needed something with substance. I needed comedy that was satire our society or at least spoke to me on a higher, more adult level. I thought that Howard Stern was going to fill that slot for me, but despite his great wins over the dominating FCC he was still the horny teenager where I needed something more grown up. I needed free funny Internet radio shows that challenged me and wasn't controlled by any government agency.
The Federal Communications Commission has had a stranglehold on the world of radio and television for decades. It stifles creativity and keeps people in check from producing the art they wish to produce. All vulgar speech is not art, but when someone starts labeling words as "obscene" then we really lose a lot of what the 1st Amendment to the Constitution is really about. Freedom of Speech was not enacted to protect words that are comfortable to hear. The 1st Amendment was instituted to protect the words people say that others don't like hearing. Otherwise, it is all just a farce of freedom. This is why I celebrate the rise of free funny Internet radio today.
The advent of free funny Internet radio came about largely due to the advancement of technology. I have to tip my hat to Mr. Steve Jobs for bringing podcasts into prominence with their iTunes 4.9 update in 2005. Podcasts had a history before that, but it wasn't until iTunes made it so easily accessible that it really started to blossom. While music will always be the most popular audio files downloaded from iTunes, many office professionals began listening in to user-generated content during their work day. It wasn't long before professionals began their own podcasts and the competition got good.
Free funny Internet radio has become the future of broadcasting. Terrestrial radio is dying a slow death in America as more and more people look to the Internet for its entertainment. Since the FCC has no jurisdiction over the Internet, pod casts have the freedom from fear to truly follow their creativity and flourish. I am overjoyed that broadcasting has finally grown up.
