Same Price but which is Better Value? The Apple iPhone 4S vs. The Huawei Ascend P6

If you're looking for a great new phone, then you've got plenty of choices. With thousands of hand-sets on the market to choose from the most difficult part of mobile shopping is knowing just which device to go with. For a good quality, mid-range phone you're going to be paying between three and four hundred pounds, which is a pretty hefty investment in today's financial climate. That means that you're going to want to know that you're getting good value for money. Plus, a decent and reliable mobile is essential too, with so many of us depending on a mobile for both personal and professional reasons. So how can you choose? Technically, you could do the research yourself. But spending hours wading through all the technical language and big numbers on a mobile spec sheet isn't most people's idea of fun. So, you could let us help you out. We've taken a close look at some of the best mid-range phones on the market. We then matched phones up in head to head comparisons so that you can see precisely how they differ and which one is best. Want to know which phone we're recommending today? Then read on to find out all you need to know...

The Two Devices...
Apple needs no introduction as a mobile brand. They're the best selling mobile phone manufacturer in the world, and iPhones regularly top popularity lists in the UK. A new iPhone can be a pretty big investment though. But the best iPhone 4S deals UK operators have will get you a device for free. The iPhone 4S might not be the most recent release from Apple, but it is still a great quality mid-range phone, and a good compromise if you really want that iPhone but can't afford to pay iPhone 5S prices. Huawei on the other hand aren't the best known company in the UK. But the Chinese manufacturer has recently started to make a name for itself for producing high featured phones for very reasonable prices. We've chosen their brand new Huawei Ascend P6 today, one of the best devices that the company makes. Which of these two phones is going to come out on top?

The Two Prices...
If you want to buy the iPhone 4S SIM free then you're looking at spending around three hundred and fifty pounds for the hand set alone. The best iPhone 4S deals UK operators provide will get you the phone for no money down, and O2 currently offer the 4S on a £27 a month contract. The Huawei Ascend P6 will again cost you around three hundred and fifty pounds to buy SIM free. And if you want to get the device on a contract with a mobile operator, then O2 will once again give you the hand set for no money down on a £27 a month contract.

Why Choose the Huawei Ascend P6?
The Huawei Ascend P6 has several advantages over the iPhone 4S. It does run the faster processor, coming with a 1500 MHz device as compared to the iPhone's 1000 MHz processor. This makes the Ascend faster, more powerful and more responsive to user input. The Ascend also gets the larger screen, measuring in at a massive 4.7 inches versus the iPhone which has only a three and a half inch screen. This big difference in screen size really improves your user experience. You get better video watching, better web page and document reading (without too much scrolling), and you can type far more comfortably and easily on the on screen pop up keyboard. That display has fifty per cent higher screen resolution as well, so it's brighter and nicer to look at. Battery life on the Huawei Ascend P6 is better too, by around sixty per cent. It averages around thirteen days of standby time per battery charge cycle versus just eight days on the iPhone 4S, so you'll need to charge your phone a lot less often. Surprisingly, despite the bigger screen, the Huawei is the more portable device. It's around ten per cent generally smaller than the iPhone, as well as thirty per cent thinner. Plus, it's lighter too, weighing in at just 120 grams as opposed to the 140 gram iPhone 4S. Finally, the Huawei also has a built in FM radio. This isn't really a necessity with so many great radio apps on the market, but some people prefer to have one.

Why Choose the iPhone 4S?
All of that isn't to say that the iPhone 4S doesn't have some advantages of its own though. One of the biggest advantages that the iPhone has over the Huawei Ascend P6 is the amount of internal storage on board. Internal storage determines how many photos and games and how much music and data you can store on your device, and the Ascend has only an 8 GB internal memory. The iPhone 4S comes with anything up to 64 GB of internal memory, though the three hundred and fifty pound model has only 16 GB. Both phones get the same, standard 8 MP in built camera, but that on the iPhone can also shoot high resolution full HD video, whilst that on the Huawei can't. If you often use a Bluetooth device, such as a hands free set in the car, then the iPhone 4S does run the newer Bluetooth 4.0 version rather than the 3.0 version on the Ascend. This means that you get faster data transfer and that your phone uses less battery power when connecting. The iPhone does have around ten per cent more PPI (pixels per inch) on screen, which technically makes the display better defined. However, this is a difficult difference to notice unless you're holding the phones side by side. Finally, the iPhone App Store does have around thirty per cent more apps and games available for download than the Android App Market used on the Huawei model.

The Better Phone?
Given that these two devices are exactly the same price, the Huawei Ascend P6 has to be the better buy. The bigger screen and faster processor just give the Ascend the edge over the iPhone 4S.

When it came to iPhone 4S deals UK customers like Sam Jones knew exactly where to look. uSwitch and similar sites told them everything that they needed to know.
