A friend has been taking photos with older medium format cameras and scanning the film. I like the results I see and want to play too.

Today I bought this folder camera. It is difficult to identify the exact model. It is a Zeiss Ikon camera. 6x9 format, which I really wanted. f 3,5. 105mm Novar lens (not the Tessar, but lots of people say it is more about the condition of the lens now-a-days), uncoupled rangefinder. Bellows are good. Shutter is good. Lens is pretty clean inside and out. Maybe some internal issues inside the glass based on the reflections I'm seeing but first light will tell all. The glass is at least 60 years old now, maybe 70 or 80.

I will get a film scanner to go with and then post-process the resultant 8000x5000 originals. Pretty fun.

A personal note: when I was about 12 years old my journey in photography began with a camera like this. I bought it for 50 cents at a flea market and learned how to use it. not only did I learn how to use it, I did star trail photos with it, and I have them somewhere. i will scan them and post at a later date. Truth be told my "first" first camera was a Kodak X-15, but that just didn't constitute a beginning of a journey in photography. Except for the wicked portrait I did of my family inside a totally black cave in the rockies...oh well, I guess Kodak gets the nod.

This is a 3x tonemapped HDR macro taken with my Canon G10 in low light (a bankers table lamp).
